Under Construction at The Square
Get up-to-date info about all the construction projects happening right here this summer at The Square by reading our updates below.
Update – May 30, 2025
It’s official! Our museum store has now moved back to its permanent location in the Visitor Center. Kudos to all the hard work from our staff this week, clearing out the Visitor Center, and hauling the entire store inventory from one building to the other!
First Update – May 19, 2025
In 2023, Phoenix voters passed a GO (General Obligation) Bond, funding crucial city improvements from revitalized parks and libraries to affordable housing and safer public buildings. The exciting part is that this summer, some of these funds will be spent right here at The Square!
What work you can expect to see as a result of the GO Bond:
-
- Porches at the Rosson, Silva, and Teeter Houses will be repaired and/or replaced.
- The Stevens and Stevens-Haustgen Houses will be getting new roofs and updated floors.
- The exterior of the Lath House will be repainted.
- Maintenance work on pavers is scheduled in and around The Square.
What work we’ll be doing:
Because the Stevens and Stevens-Haustgen Houses will have to be empty while construction work is being completed, we’re changing things up a little! At the end of May, we’re moving the museum store permanently from Stevens House back into the Visitor Center. The City will work on the Stevens House while that building is empty, and when that work is finished, we’ll begin moving our collection storage from the Stevens-Haustgen House to its new home in Stevens House. This move will be permanent, and will give us more area for our storage and larger rooms for the public to join us for collections-related programming.
We will keep you up to date on all the construction work being done this summer – including pictures! – here on this blog page, as well as on our social media platforms.
Thank you for following along, and to the City of Phoenix and Phoenix voters for funding these critical projects at The Square, as well as other projects throughout our community!
